Nehru’s Declaration

On 5^th March 1956, Jawharlal Nehru declared at Nizamabad (Telangana) that the Government of India had decided to Merge Telangana with Andhra. He also Assured to Telangana people that “a masoom ki bachchi (Telangana), ek natkhat (Andhra) ke saath shadi ho raha hai. Kai din ke bad me ittefaq nahi hone ke vaje se talaq de sakthe hain” An innocent girl (Telangana) is married off to a Delinquent (Andhra). If they are not interested they could seek separation at a later day.

This was published in Indian Express newspaper on 6^th March 1956.

Indian government in 1956 recognized that Andhra people can exploit resources and opportunities of Telangana region, so they decided to add a clause in SRC for Telangana. That clause says that if Telangana people feel that if they are exploited by Andhra or two areas do not materialise then they can be separated.

STATES REORGANISATION COMMISSION REPORT

"Para 388: Andhra and Telangana have common interests and we hope these interests will tend to bring the people closer to each other. If, however, our hopes for the development of the environment and conditions congenial to the unification of the two areas do not materialise and if public sentiment in Telangana crystallises itself against the unification of the two states, Telangana will have to continue as a separate unit."
